Arab American Discrimination Committee
February 5, 2003
This is a reminder for men from countries in Groups 1 and 2 who are subject
to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) Special Call-in
Registration. The extended deadline ends Friday, February 7, 2003.
Group 1: Male citizens or nationals of Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria and Libya
who were born on or before November 15 and were inspected and last admitted
to the US as non-immigrants on or before September 10, 2002, should have
registered with the INS by December 16, 2002. If you have not registered
yet, you must register with the INS by Friday, February 7, 2003.
Group 2: Male citizens or nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain,
Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, the
United Arab Emirates, and Yemen who were born on or before December 2, 1986,
and were inspected and last admitted to the US as a non-immigrant on or
before September 30, 2002, must have registered with the INS by January 10,
2003. If you have not registered yet, you must register with the INS by
Friday, February 7, 2003.
If you are affected you should consult with an immigration
attorney prior to registering. A willful failure to register may make all
affected individuals deportable for failure to maintain non-immigrant
status, may be used by the INS as a negative discretionary factor when
filing for other forms of immigration relief and may lead to criminal
penalties (fines and/or jail time).
